Caboose Ghost

The Story

Dear Jason,

Hi. My name is Tess & im 14 years old. I have a picture that my friend & I Nicole took when we went to a ghost town called Rhyolite that had a face (or faces) in a window of a train caboose. When we took this picture there was no glass at all in the window. It was nothing but a wooden frame. I also took this picture with a digital camera so there was no possibility of a double exposure or faulty film. When showing people this picture they said that there were many faces in the picture. I only see one in the center of the frame. I wanted to give it to you to put in your ghost gallery since you haven't had a new one in awhile. I love your website & I go on it almost everyday. Here is the picture, please tell me what you think.

Sincerely,
Tess

Analysis

This picture intrigues me.

Anytime I get a picture, I look over it and try and explain away what it might be. At first, I thought this could be condensation on an old glass window but, as Tess pointed out, there is no glass. Just in case I was being fibbed to, I put the picture through some filters to find evidence of any glass. None was there.

Then, I considered perhaps it was dust or foggy breath illuminated by a flash. Again, after putting the picture through some filters, the face in the window is not circular and it appears to be behind the stained broken glass in the bottom of the window frame.

So, I am at a loss. There are a few possibilities one being that perhaps Tess has an accomplice inside the caboose who is smoking or breathing on a cold day and that was what was captured on film. It's possible that the face could be an out of focus cobweb or maybe... just maybe it's something more.

Conclusion

Often it is the question that is more interesting than the answer and this picture does raise a lot of questions.  I'm reluctant to say that it's a ghost, but it's nothing that I can immediately explain away.
