The Dorm Ghost

The Story

Hello there,

My name is Lauren and I am living in the dorms at my college in Nebraska. Well, one night, my friends and I were really bored and we decided to have a fun photo shoot. While we were taking the pictures on my digital camera, I saw that there was a blurry thing in the corner of one of the pictures. I originally thought that there was a smudge on the lens, so I wiped the lens off. A few pictures later, the smudge was back and in the original spot that it was before. After I loaded the pictures onto my computer and saw the blurry image in the corner of the pictures, I looked through my other pictures to find that the figure was in another picture that I had taken a few weeks earlier. These images have bothered me, because they are in my dorm room and I just wonder what has been going on. Also, about a week after I moved in, my roommate and I were going to bed and she put her laptop (which she had turned completely off) in one of the shelves in the closet. About five minutes later, the computer started blaring music. We were really freaked out by this, because she had turned her computer off. She had to turn her computer on to see if anything was playing on there and nothing was playing on any of her playlists. This is another thing that has been bothering me.

If you could tell me if you think anything of these pictures, I would appreciate it.

Thanks for your time!

Lauren

(The first two pictures are of the photo shoot with my three friends. The second is one that I had taken the first day that I got there with one of my other friends that was helping me move in. As you can see, the figure is in the same spot all three times. There are no mirrors to reflect the light towards the closet, either.)

Analysis

I don't think you're going to have to break out the priest and holy water just yet.  The "blurry figure" Lauren has referred to is actually a photographic phenomenon caused when something reflective is just out of frame of a picture.  Lauren has said that there is no mirror to reflect and I completely believe her, but one should take into account that mirrors aren't the only things that reflect light.

To the right, I have ramped up the contrast on one of the pictures and have placed an arrow to the corner where you can see a white stripe.  This stripe seems to correspond with the placement of a wall on the left hand side.  It's my belief that light bounced off this wall when the flash went off and created the photo anomaly.  I've had this happen to me hundreds of times during my photography career.

I did notice that the second picture has what appears to be fine filaments or hair.  It's possible also that the anomaly could also be part of someone's figure or a stray hair or two in front of the flash.

The personal accounts of haunting activity in the dorm doesn't surprise me.  Dorms are notoriously haunted places as they are a hotbed of strong emotions.  More than likely, these hauntings aren't intelligent and are really nothing to worry about or be afraid of.  My advise is to enjoy it -- not many people can claim they've lived in a haunted location.

Conclusion

Not a ghost.
