Early Morning Phantom

The Story

The enclosed attachment was taken on my back porch in the wee hours of a March 2009 morning. I set up my camera on a timer to catch shots of the sunrise. This image appeared in the series I captured. I first thought it a trick of the light, but car headlights and street lamps don't reach the two-story balcony.

There was no one on the porch; my only neighbor is male, and the anomally in the photo appears female.

Analysis

I have to admit, this picture strikes me as highly suspect, the result of someone jumping into frame with a sheet and holding themselves up on the ledge to simulate floating during a long exposure.

1. Tree branches are blurred as would happen during a prolonged exposure thanks to wind rustling the branches.

2. The "ghost" appears to be wearing sneakers and a patterned dress or bathrobe with a tassel hanging down the back.

3. Placement of the photo is odd. Darkladyjane says she was trying to take a picture of the sunrise, but if that's the case why not simply take a picture beyond the balcony edge where there would be less obstruction?

Conclusion

My spidey-sense is tingling with this one. I'll have to call this one as fake.  When my findings where posted to the old site about a year ago, I was contacted by a very angry Darkladyjane who went so far as to threaten legal action if I didn't remove the photo and the analysis off of my site (given that she sent me the picture, there was no legal leg to stand on).

I, however, stand by my original opinion: fake.
