Ghost Foot
The Story
Sent in by Billy Hopkins:
Hello, We were
taking some promo pics in my house, and after I uploaded them, I saw this foot
sitting on my shoulder. My house was built in the 1920's and this pic bothered
me for days. All of the other pics seemed to come out fine, except for one right
before this one, and it was the only other pic that was not in focus. I did not
include it because I saw nothing else in the pic that was out of the ordinary.
Well, I hope you like it!

Analysis

My policy towards ghost photos is that, unless the evidence strongly says otherwise, I always assume that the witnesses are telling the truth. It's certainly possible that a picture like this could be faked with a prop or something, but just blatantly calling people liars would be unfair to people who are genuinely seeking help. Therefore, I usually leave the truth up to the people who send me their stories because, after all, they're the only ones who really know.
One thing is for sure, Mr. Hopkins, I do like this. I'm not one hundred percent certain that it's the phantom foot of a ghost, but on the other hand I don't have an instant explanation about it.
My first thought was that this was a simple double exposure and that the spectral tootsie in question was simply the foot of one of the subjects taken in the double exposure. Look at how the guitars are duplicated.
But upon closer inspection, the foot is more solid, even casting what appears to be a shadow on the man's shoulder. The shadow doesn't correspond with any of the other shadows in the picture, but it does make the foot "pop out" and become more apparent.
At the same time, the foot is transparent. Perhaps this is a triple exposure, but if that's the case, where is the rest of the person the foot belongs to?
Observations about the foot:
1. If it is a foot, the
ankle is at a very odd angle.
2. The toes are freakishly long.
3. I'm not sure, but it almost appears as though the foot fades into a bone
structure at the heel.
Conclusion
I'm going to stop short of saying that this is a ghost since there is a very real chance of a simple double exposure even though its one of the weirdest I have ever seen. Certainly, the possibility exists but there could be other explanations that have escaped me. Barring any trickery, though, this is a very interesting picture and, if genuine, a very odd spiritual encounter.
Update
Dear Jason,
I think the ghost foot picture sent to your site might be a double exposure.
I've outlined what looks like the images of other guitars in red. I also think
that what looks like the foot might be the strings passing over the sound hole.
I outlined other sound holes in green.
I hope you'll see it too.
Love,
Holly

That is a possibility, but this remains the strangest double exposure (if it is that) that I have ever seen.
