The Return of Freddy Jackson

The Story

A run of the mill group photo of a World War I squadron became infamous when an extra face appeared behind one of the airmen located on the top row, fourth from the left (see insert for a clearer view). The airmen instantly recognized the face to be that of Freddy Jackson, a mechanic who was killed by an airplane propeller two days prior. His funeral had taken place on that day and, after the picture was developed, members of the squad easily recognized the ghost image of Freddy Jackson peering from behind one of his colleagues.  It has been suggested that Jackson, unaware of his death, decided to show up for the group photo with his squadron.

Analysis

If the stories are to be believed then this photo has got to be one of the greatest photos of a ghost ever taken.  I'm not sure how it could have been faked using the equipment of the time.

Conclusion

Meet Freddy Jackson: Ghost.
